This newly created position will help support many functions within the department so the Agency and its employees can serve our community and public safety partners. This position performs a variety of professional, technical and office administrative human resources support functions pertaining to recruitment, selection and testing, employee benefits, leave of absence tracking and other sensitive human resources projects. This position handles confidential and sensitive maters relating to all aspects of the human resources function. This is a non-exempt, part time position (20 hours per week).
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Assist in the personnel recruitment processes; prepare job announcements and advertisements utilizing human resources information system such as NEOGOV; coordinate and schedule interviews; communicate with applicants; prepare examination materials; screen employment applications and attachments; coordinate and proctor examinations; tabulate scores; coordinate and monitor completion of post-employment physicals/tests and background checks; perform employee orientations; compile statistics on applicant pools and selection data.Track leave of absence usage in relation to leave laws; communicate with employees regarding leave of absence policies and practices; coordinate follow up with employees ensuring proper paperwork is submitted. Initiate, review, and process personnel action forms (PAFs) and service awards including new hire forms, promotions, salary increases, terminations and separations and other status changes; work with other HR staff and payroll/finance to resolve discrepancies.Assist with tracking a wide variety of data and events, including but not limited to performance appraisals, personnel information and reporting, workers’ compensation and/or liability claims and files. Research, respond to, or refer employee questions about benefits programs. Assist with annual open enrollment process. Support wellness and recognition activities by assisting in their design and implementation, including assisting with planning events.Create and maintain employee information including employee personnel file set up, personnel records, and job descriptions. Organize and maintain related files and provide personnel reports as requested. Audit Human Resources records to ensure legal requirements are met.Handles responsibilities confidentially and sensitively.Effectively interact with employees and the public, including applicants. Ensure duties and tasks are conducted in accordance with the Agency Safety Program.Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands Sit, walk and stand for extended period of time. Stoop, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 15 pounds is infrequent; use of keyboard requiring a high degree of finger dexterity and visual work on a computer for long periods of time. Use of telephone and verbal and written communication is frequent. Work is usually conducted in an office environment with telephones, personal interruptions and background noises. Accommodations may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.Supervision Received/ExercisedThis position receives direct supervision from the Human Resources Manager. This position does not supervise others.
