Waypoint’s client is seeking a Prompt Engineer to support efforts in integrating generative artificial intelligence (GAI) technologies, including large language models (LLMs), to enhance tactical efficiency and decision-making capabilities across combatant commands.

This initiative focuses on leveraging AI-driven innovation to shape future Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) for operational environments. The selected candidate will contribute to the development, testing, and refinement of GAI solutions that directly support mission execution and national security objectives.

This position offers the opportunity to work at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence in a collaborative environment at facilities in and around Colorado Springs, CO.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for AI-based solutions supporting combatant command initiatives.
• Conduct detailed data analysis and provide actionable insights to enhance system performance and operational utility.
• Design, refine, and optimize prompts for generative AI models to support mission planning and decision-making processes.
• Implement Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques to improve AI accuracy, context retention, and relevance.
• Evaluate and mitigate issues such as bias, hallucination, and ethical risk within AI model outputs.
• Apply Verification, Validation, and Uncertainty Quantification (VVUQ) processes to assess reliability and performance of AI systems.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across Joint Services to shape and document TTPs for GAI usage in tactical and operational settings.
• Contribute to cross-functional knowledge-sharing and provide technical expertise on deep learning architectures and AI frameworks.

• 2–8 years of experience in prompt development, GAI deployment, and AI data analysis.
• Demonstrated expertise in GAI development, including prompt engineering and RAG implementation.
• Strong technical knowledge of deep learning architectures, frameworks, AI hallucinations, and bias mitigation methods.
• Experience applying VVUQ processes to AI outputs.

• Prior experience with Joint Test & Evaluation or operational testing environments.
• Proven ability to optimize prompt engineering across platforms while addressing model bias, hallucinations, and ethics.
• Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
• Experience collaborating with cross-service or Joint operational teams.
