Research Scientist - Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics

Essential functions (job duties):

Unique duties:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, provide scientific and technical assistance in conducting research at the interface of genomics, machine learning, and maternal-fetal medicine. May assist in writing research protocols and in manuscript preparation. Design and perform research protocols independently or as directed through training in more difficult or specialized procedures to meet the needs of the research protocol. With the assistance of the Principal Investigator, find and write research grants to obtain additional research grant funding. Responsibilities may also include coordinating correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledging receipt of proposals, and maintaining a system to track proposals. Perform laboratory-based scientific techniques or population science research. Design and perform experiments and participate in implementing research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory, and protocol guidelines. Assist staff with experiments/research protocols as required. Communicate with the principal investigator on the status of the research. Collect and log laboratory results. Evaluate and perform data analysis using Python, R, and other specialized linux tools for genomics data. Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results for professional, scientific, and academic conferences. Summarize and organize data results for submission to academic and scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication. Fact-check, proofread, and edit research documents to ensure accuracy. Maintain the laboratory work areas, including routine maintenance on laboratory equipment as required. Order and organize required research supplies and records. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of work station. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:   Doctorate degree

Preferred qualifications:

Doctorate degree in biology, statistics, computer science, or engineering. Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience). Must have distinguished themselves in research and published at least 3 manuscripts as first author. Ability to work independently. Ability to secure grants and funding for research. Ability to analyze, summarize, and interpret research findings in reports and communicate results. Knowledge of scientific integrity principles. Excellent time management and organization skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated knowledge in genomics data analysis, statistics, and maternal-fetal medicine
