Position Summary
The Foundation Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management of the School Foundation. This role oversees fundraising, donor relations, community engagement, and grant management to support the mission of enhancing educational opportunities for students. The Coordinator works closely with the Foundation Board of Directors, school district leadership, and community partners to build sustainable resources that strengthen academic, extracurricular, and enrichment programs.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Development
- Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including major gifts, annual campaigns, sponsorships, and events.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, community partners, and corporate sponsors to grow long-term support.
- Research and write grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government sources.
Board & Leadership Support
- Partner with the Foundation Board of Directors to establish annual goals, strategies, and performance benchmarks.
- Provide regular updates on fundraising progress, financial status, and program impact.
- Support board recruitment, training, and engagement.
Community & District Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Foundation and the school district, ensuring alignment with district priorities.
- Build strong relationships with parents, staff, alumni, local businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders.
- Represent the Foundation at school and community events, enhancing visibility and credibility.
Operations & Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Foundation, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, and donor database management.
- Ensure transparency, accountability, and stewardship of funds.
Marketing & Communications
- Lead communication strategies to promote the Foundation’s mission and impact.
- Develop donor recognition materials, annual reports, and community updates.
- Manage website, social media, and media relations to strengthen brand awareness.
Qualifications
- Deep passion for Wayne-Westland Community Schools and belief in the power of public education.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect authentically with parents, alumni, retired staff, and community partners.
- Experience in organizing events, leading projects, or community involvement (formal nonprofit leadership experience a plus, but not required).
- Comfort with public speaking and sharing the Foundation’s story.
- Ability to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, and work independently.
- Familiarity with Wayne-Westland schools (as a parent, former staff member, alum, or community volunteer) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, or related roles.
