Additional $1.00 per hour shift diff applies working evening and / or night shifts

The work involves the routine care of patients in accordance with a detailed and well-defined patient care plan. In a skilled nursing facility, the Licensed Practical Nurse works under the direct supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Assignments concerning patient care are specifically provided with limited leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision of subordinates will vary with the type of facility providing the patient/resident services. Does related work as required.

Examples of Typical Duties

TYPICAL DUTIES (Illustrative only)

• Prepares, administers and records medications according to the physician’s order and medication policies of the facility;
• Carries out uncomplicated therapeutic treatments such as giving enemas, preparing and applying simple dressings and administering certain medications in accordance with established policy;
• May assist in or actively implement the nursing care plan for patients/residents;
• May take the temperature, note the rate of pulse and respiration, and observe and record other signs and symptoms as directed;
• Collects specimens and obtains cultures and assists in carrying out diagnostic procedures under supervision;
• May assists in the admission and discharge of patients;
• Assists patients/residents in performing ambulation exercises and maintaining proper joint motion;
• Cares for equipment used in care of patients as directed;
• Makes beds and performs other tasks designed to provide a suitable environment for residents;
• Performs other related duties as required.

Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

Working knowledge of nursing techniques and their relation to medical and surgical practices; working knowledge of hospital sanitation and hygiene; ability to carry out therapeutic treatments prescribed; ability to understand and carry out exactly detailed oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to get along well with patients and others; cheerfulness; good moral character; patience; emotional stability; and physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a New York State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• License must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
• Maintenance of a current CPR/BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) is a mandatory condition of continued employment, per CMS (§483.35) and NYS (§415.13) regulations.
