Primary Purpose

Instruct and prepare students to provide nurse aide skills according to Department Health and Human Services and North Carolina Board of Nursing guidelines.

Position Duties

  • Provide effective instruction in assigned courses, averaging 170 instructional hours per semester.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain course content and syllabi as needed.
  • Utilize innovative instructional strategies and appropriate technologies suited to courses and learners.
  • Employ evaluation methods that measure student attainment of competencies and review performance with students.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly instructional environment in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
  • Model professional behaviors in the classroom, on campus, and in the community.
  • Assist in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, current technology, audiovisual aids, equipment, textbooks, and library holdings.
  • Submit required reports accurately and on time.
  • Maintain attendance records and student records in accordance with college policies.
  • Participate in college, division, and departmental planning processes.
  • Attend and participate in college activities, including faculty, department, division, and committee meetings; faculty orientation; advisory committee meetings; pre-registration; registration; graduation exercises; and other required events.
  • Engage in college marketing, recruitment, and retention efforts.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including conferences, workshops, training sessions, and independent study.
  • Serve as an academic or career advisor to students, maintaining a minimum of one scheduled office hour daily.
  • Contribute to the college’s mission and goals and participate in activities that strengthen partnerships between Wayne Community College and the community.
  • Report to the Workforce Continuing Education Allied Health Department Head.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • An Associate’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution and a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina are required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • One year of home care/home health experience is preferred.
  • Candidates must have experience teaching adults and/or supervising nurse aides.
  • Must be willing to work day or evening classes and possess general computer skills.
  • Travel to clinical sites is required.
  • Must meet vaccination requirements for clinical sites.
  • A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and a clean driving record that meets the requirements for insurability under Wayne Community College’s auto insurance policy are required.
  • A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish are preferred.

Supplemental Information

Unofficial transcripts from all degree-granting, institutions must be electronically attached to your application or submitted to Human Resources before being considered for an interview. To be considered, all degrees must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution recognized by the United States Department of Education. Official transcripts for all coursework and degrees will be required within 30 days of hire.
Foreign Degrees: Foreign degree evaluations must be attached in lieu of transcripts for degrees earned outside the United States. Transcripts from foreign institutions will not be considered alone.
Foreign Credential Evaluation Services: Wayne Community College accepts foreign transcript evaluations only from the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. *Prices for transcript evaluations vary from agency to agency, and payment is the applicant's responsibility.
