What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Paralegal position at Waymark HR Group?
Waymark HR Group is hiring a Paralegal on behalf of an established estate planning, probate, and estate administration law firm in Buffalo, NY. This is a hands-on seat working directly with the firm's attorneys — you'll carry files, not just organize them.
No prior law firm experience required. This firm would rather teach someone the right way than untrain bad habits — a strong work ethic and sharp thinking matter more than a paralegal certificate.
What you'll do:
- Support estate administration and probate matters from filing through closing, including Surrogate's Court petitions and accountings
- Assist with estate planning documents — wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare proxies
- Coordinate client signings, including occasional local visits to homes or care facilities
- Manage deadlines and filings across multiple attorneys' active caseloads
- Work directly with the firm's attorneys day to day — this isn't a role buried three layers down
What we're looking for:
- Self-directed — comfortable managing your own workload without being micromanaged
- A thinker, not just a task-follower — you understand why a step matters, not just that it's next
- Organized enough to juggle several attorneys' files without dropping a deadline
- Bonus if you have exposure to NYSCEF, e-filing systems, or Smokeball — not required, and the firm will train it
What's offered:
- $55,000–$65,000 base salary, with a formal 90-day review
- Health and dental insurance fully paid by the firm — for you and your spouse
- Simple IRA with a 3% company match after one year
- 15 days PTO in year one, unlimited PTO after that
- A small firm where you'll know everyone, questions are welcome, and the door is genuinely open
