Responsible for providing legal advice and recommendations to human resources and management on matters related to employment, benefits plans (including ERISA plans), and compensation. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of prior employment, benefits, and compensation law experience in private practice and/or as in-house counsel.
- Provides advice and counsel on wide range of employment, compensation, and employee benefit plans, including employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, contingent workers, immigration, recruitment, inclusion, and outsourcing.
- Provide legal counsel for governing committees for qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, health and welfare plans, incentive plans and other benefit programs.
- Draft and support negotiations for benefit plan and program vendor agreements.
- Provide legal guidance for ERISA compliance matters (claims and appeals, reporting and disclosure).
- Draft and review compensation and benefit plan and program documents, disclosures and employee communications.
- Provide legal advice and counseling on paid sick and safe leave requirements, leaves of absence, compensation, and benefits.
- Assist in development and implementation of company policies and programs to promote compliance with federal, state and local labor and employment laws and regulations.
- Conduct training and presentations to business and human resource leaders on various employment law issues.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of legal standards, practices, and regulations related to employment, benefits, and compensation matters
- Minimum of 3 years of legal practice focused on employment, benefits, and compensation matters
- Demonstrated excellence in legal research, analysis, and communication
- Strong negotiation, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a rapidly changing environment
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics
- Current license to practice law in Wisconsin (or obtain Wisconsin license within 12 months of hire date)
