Millroom Process Engineer
Responsibilities/Duties
- In accordance with company goals, must adhere to high standards of performance and safety while communicating and assisting in reinforcing that safety is the #1 company objective.
- Attend Daily Communication Meeting, Waupaca Way Level 2 & 3 meetings, Continuous Improvement Meetings, Monthly Safety Meetings etc. as they relate to the millroom and your activities.
- Establish and maintain standard work for all millroom processes.
- Utilize problem solving tools such as flow diagrams, FMEA’s, control plans, 5 Why, six sigma, etc to recognize potential failures and determine root cause of existing issues impacting safety, efficiency, and productivity.
- Review current production schedules and daily downtime to track problematic jobs, equipment, or processes and review at the spot for verification and troubleshooting.
- Involvement in manufacturing project design, build and implementation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with millroom leadership, millroom associates, and all support groups to gain the confirmation and support necessary for success in the following responsibilities:
- Identify, develop, and lead projects to optimize millroom processes (trimming, no grind, robotic grinding, etc).
- Identify, develop, and lead projects to balance and optimize labor efficiency.
- Identify, develop, and lead projects to automate and improve inspection & part testing.
- Develop and assist in developing procedures and policies to improve production systems.
- Support the Department Training Group in the installation of improved training processes, procedures and methods.
- This is not an exhaustive list of duties or functions and may not necessarily comprise all of the "essential functions" for purposes of the ADA.
- A four-year degree in manufacturing or industrial engineering and minimum 5 years of experience is preferred but not required. Consideration will be given to applicants with a relevant associates degree and experience in manufacturing operations with a proven track record of operations improvement.
- Foundry/Leadership training
- Kaizen and/or six sigma training
- Root cause analysis / problem solving training including understanding and the ability to utilize problem-solving tools and mistake/error proofing tools such as FMEA, Poka Yoke, Defect Analysis, 5 Whys, Red “X”, etc.
- Understanding basic costs, methods, and standards utilized in manufacturing operations.
- Must possess the following traits:

- Must acquire knowledge and exposure to all millroom operations.

- Must acquire knowledge of existing systems including but not limited to SAP, AS400, Indusoft, and (PSP) Process Settings Portal.
- A working knowledge of the ISO/TS standards as necessary.
- Must be proficient in the use of excel, word, and power point. Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD preferred.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and terminology preferred.
