Executive Assistant & Finance Associate

Waterstone Human Capital
Oxford, MS Full Time
POSTED ON 9/17/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/16/2026

Location: Oxford, Mississippi

Work Arrangement: Full-time, on-site

The Opportunity

If you know you want to build a career in finance—or close to it—but are not yet sure exactly where you fit, this role offers an uncommon place to begin.

Think of it as a management training program with a front-row seat to the decisions shaping one of the South’s most sophisticated boutique advisory firms. You will work directly with a senior executive, first becoming a trusted partner in managing the details of a demanding schedule and then using that access to learn how the business operates from the inside.

To be clear: this is an executive assistant role first. Calendar management, travel coordination, meeting preparation, follow-through, and day-to-day administrative support are not temporary obstacles to the “real” opportunity—they are how you earn trust, exposure, and increased responsibility.

For someone ambitious, grounded, and willing to master the fundamentals, this can become a launchpad into finance, consulting, private equity, business development, or shared services.

What You’ll Do

Your initial priority will be helping a senior executive stay organized, prepared, and focused. Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a complex and frequently changing calendar
  • Coordinating travel arrangements, itineraries, meetings, and logistics
  • Preparing for meetings and ensuring materials and information are ready
  • Tracking action items, deadlines, commitments, and follow-up
  • Anticipating needs and resolving issues before they escalate
  • Adjusting priorities quickly when schedules or circumstances change
  • Handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Communicating with clients, advisors, and internal team members
  • Conducting research and supporting special projects
  • Creating reliable systems that keep details from being missed
  • Taking on broader business responsibilities as trust and capability grow

This role requires someone who can determine what matters most, make sound decisions under pressure, and remain composed when plans change at the last minute.

What You’ll Learn

You will not observe the firm’s work from a distance—you will be close to the conversations and decisions that drive it.

As a direct extension of the executive, you will gain exposure to areas such as:

  • Tax planning, structuring, and strategy
  • Banking, finance, and deal negotiation
  • Insurance and risk management
  • Trust, estate, and legal matters
  • Corporate structuring and private equity
  • Capital markets and fund administration
  • Venture capital and alternative investments

You are not expected to arrive knowing all of these areas. You are expected to be curious, resourceful, and committed to learning them.

Where This Role Can Lead

This Position Is Designed As a Ground-floor Entry Point With Meaningful Opportunities For Advancement. Depending On Your Strengths And Interests, Potential Career Paths Within The Firm May Include:

  • Consulting analyst or relationship management
  • Private equity, including asset management, capital raising, or fund administration
  • Shared services, including legal, tax, HR, or finance
  • Business development

The growth story is real. A previous employee successfully balanced this role with a full course load, learned the firm from the inside out, earned consistent unsolicited praise from clients, completed his degree, and advanced into Business Development.

The firm has also supported professionals who eventually left to start their own practices or build books of business elsewhere. The experience and marketability gained here can extend well beyond what a traditional entry-level role offers.

Who We’re Looking For

The right person is ambitious and finance-curious—but also genuinely willing to earn future opportunities by excelling in the executive assistant seat first.

You Will Likely Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Exceptionally organized and attentive to detail
  • Proactive, resourceful, and comfortable figuring things out independently
  • Able to create dependable systems for tracking tasks and follow-through
  • Calm and solutions-oriented when plans change unexpectedly
  • Capable of prioritizing quickly when everything feels important
  • Coachable, collaborative, and responsive to feedback
  • Naturally confident and comfortable engaging with senior professionals and high-net-worth clients
  • A strong written and verbal communicator
  • Curious across multiple business and financial disciplines
  • Professional, discreet, and dependable
  • Able to demonstrate meaningful growth over time

We are especially interested in current college seniors or recent graduates in business, finance, or a related field. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

Candidates with established ties to Oxford or the surrounding area are strongly preferred. This is a fully on-site position, and genuine interest in building a career in Oxford matters.

Why This Firm?

Boutique firms are not inherently risky because they are small. The right firms are profitable, lean, intentional, and capable of creating extraordinary exposure for emerging professionals.

The team here builds more—per person, per dollar, and per decision—than many professionals experience at much larger institutions. You will be expected to move quickly, take ownership, and continuously improve.

You do not need to have your entire career figured out. You do need the drive to learn, the humility to begin with the fundamentals, and the professionalism to become someone the executive and the broader team can depend on.

The upside is real—and it belongs to the people willing to earn it.
