Diesel & Trailer Mechanic
Waterloo Warehousing & Service Co., Inc. (WWSC) is looking for a dependable, experienced Diesel & Trailer Mechanic to join our team in Waterloo, Iowa.
This position is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of our fleet of semi tractors and trailers. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, can diagnose problems effectively, and understands the importance of keeping equipment safe, reliable, and on the road.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine service on semi tractors and trailers
- Diagnose and repair diesel engine and mechanical issues
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair air brake systems
- Perform suspension, axle, wheel-end, and steering repairs
- Troubleshoot electrical, lighting, and wiring issues
- Repair trailer doors, flooring, roofs, landing gear, air systems, and other trailer components
- Perform tire and wheel service as needed
- Identify worn or damaged components and recommend needed repairs
- Diagnose equipment issues and determine the most effective repair
- Complete required inspection, maintenance, and repair documentation
- Maintain tools, equipment, parts, and work areas in an organized manner
- Follow company safety policies and proper repair procedures
- Assist with roadside or emergency repairs when necessary
- Work with outside vendors when specialized repairs are required
Qualifications
- Previous diesel, truck, trailer, heavy-equipment, agricultural, or related mechanical experience preferred
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Knowledge of air brake systems, suspensions, electrical systems, and general truck and trailer repair
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, jacks, lifts, and shop equipment
- Ability to work independently and prioritize repairs
- Dependable attendance and strong attention to detail
- Valid driver's license required
Experience with welding/fabrication, DOT inspections, computer diagnostics, or commercial vehicle maintenance is a plus.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and work underneath equipment
- Use hand and power tools for extended periods
- Lift and carry parts, tools, and equipment
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments and varying temperatures
- Safely perform the physical duties associated with heavy truck and trailer maintenance
