Basic Function:

Interact with and directly supervise Junior Camp Counselors and campers ages 6-18 years old. Plan, implement and participate in all outdoor education adventure, animal therapy, and all other camp activities. Responsible supervising and managing group campsite and recreation supplies. Camp Counselor hours are from 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure an appropriate environment where safety and security are maintained for all campers.
  2. Assist in the supervision, counseling, training, orienting, and evaluating all children and youth in attendance.
  3. Counselors will be present throughout the day and follow WCS policies on cell phone use.
  4. Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid and Lifeguard certifications (if applicable).
  5. Take immediate corrective action as necessary and report all deficiencies in health, safety, and general housekeeping standards for the camp.
  6. Ensure the basic needs of the campers assigned to their care are met.
  7. Manage assigned group camp site and supplies.
  8. Hike with campers assigned back and forth to camp activities and camp sites.
  9. Assist in the supervision of all aspects of daily camp routine for group assigned, to include meals, recreational activities.
  10. Participate in and help manage all outdoor education adventure and animal therapy activities, and all other camp activities.
  11. Respond in accordance with agency procedure to situations, which require physical and/ or emotional intervention with campers.
  12. Follow guidelines, as prescribed by the Agency nurse, for the medical care of campers.
  13. Maintain all necessary documentation including log books, incident reports, etc.
  14. Attend Camp meetings.
  15. Maintain general knowledge of and follow Agency policies and procedures as contained in the WCS Personal Handbook, WCS Procedure Manuel, and department manual.
  16. Gain a general understanding of agency treatment models such as CARE and TCI.
  17. Function as positive role model for all campers and staff at Camp Cuheca.
  18. Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of Agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
  19. Transport campers in agency vehicles as needed.
  20. Other duties as directed by Camp Director or the Director of Outdoor Education.
