Basic Function:
Facilitate, with the education department personnel and other agency staff, the establishment and maintenance of a school environment that is safe, positive and conducive to learning. Manage the overall coordination of non-instructional programming for the day students and boarding students. The focus is on managing the logistics of their placements including transportation, attendance and routine parent contact, and providing classroom aid support to the instructional staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the greeting, orientation and support of new day students.
- Keep records of daily student attendance, on grounds count and over all censuses. Submits daily report through RES/MED/ED
- Summits monthly day student reports to Director of Education
- Facilitate communication between teaching staff and guardians regarding attendance, transportation, medication.
- Manage and coordinate drivers for the Education department including maintaining a list of qualified drivers, records of training and coordinating necessary trainings.
- Oversee the care and cleanliness of the vehicles assigned to the Education department.
- Ensure the maintenance of the driving logs and inventory of required items i.e. first aid kit are stocked and up to date.
- Manage day student allowances for Lower and Middle school students
- Assist with day students daily care and hygiene as needed. Keep in stock necessary supplies.
- Effectively manage the arrival and dismissal of day and boarding students.
- Assist in creating and supporting a positive learning school environment that is responsive to and respectful of the learning needs of all students in the school
- Maintain effective communication with students and colleagues.
- Provide support for students through verbal and non-verbal communication, and help students develop positive self-concepts.
- Assist in crisis management/support as directed by a Day Shift Supervisor and or Administrator.
- Attend all scheduled Education Department staff meetings, staff development, and trainings.
- Practice within the CARE and TCI models supporting the therapeutic milieu at Waterford Country School for clients, Agency staff, volunteers and stakeholders.
- Must obtain and maintain certification in TCI by passing a written test annually and physical skills assessment every 6 months
- Uphold and model for our students the agency’s Health and Wellness model.
- Maintain knowledge of and follow Agency policies and procedures as contained in the WCS Personnel Handbook, WCS Procedure Manual, and departmental manuals.
- Maintain an awareness of and sensitivity to the cultural and socioeconomic differences present among the service population and fellow staff members of WCS, ensuring that cultural needs are respected and supported through the delivery of services and the development and implementation of agency programs and policies in a manner that is free from discrimination and bias relating to race, ethnicity, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, status as a victim of domestic violence or religious beliefs.
- Demonstrate competence in the CARE model by passing a written test annually.
- Function as a positive role model for all students and staff at the Waterford Country School.
- Perform other appropriate duties and carry out other projects and responsibilities as requested by the Director of Education.
- Maintain a Connecticut or other home state Driver’s License.
- During summer months works with Ed administrative team to close out and plan for the next year. Coordinates the effort to update forms in day student files annually.

Qualifications:
A Bachelors Degree is preferred or commensurate, extensive experience in working with children and adolescents. Experience in student case management and school-based programming is preferred.
