Overview
Join as an ON-CALL Licensed Driver and become a vital part of delivering safe, reliable, and friendly transportation services. In this energetic role, you will operate various vehicles—including buses, extended sedans, vans, and paratransit vehicles—ensuring passengers, including children and seniors, reach their destinations comfortably and securely. The vehicles are provided. We provided two week notices for each drive. The drives are primarily for airport runs, special events (typically within a 3-hour range), business runs, primarily on evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as buses, extended sedans, vans, or paratransit vehicles following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, behavior management, and boarding or disembarking procedures to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid when necessary.
- Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English language skills to provide updates and respond to traffic changes quickly.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure proper functioning, including checking vehicle codes, emergency stop procedures, and heavy lifting requirements when necessary.
- Enforce student discipline policies or senior care protocols as appropriate while fostering a positive environment onboard.
- Complete accurate logs of trips, incidents, vehicle maintenance needs, and passenger interactions in writing or electronic systems.
- Maintain professionalism.
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus driving or transit operation.
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit vehicle handling with knowledge of vehicle codes and traffic laws.
- Strong understanding of transportation safety regulations, emergency response procedures for transportation, and state/local commercial driving laws.
- Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to manage passenger behavior effectively and provide outstanding customer service.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks related to vehicle maintenance or passenger assistance when needed.
- Experience working with children or seniors is highly desirable to ensure compassionate passenger care.
- Knowledge of school policies or behavior management strategies relevant to student discipline or senior care environments.
