Compensation Structure
Your starting pay rate depends entirely on your prior laboratory background. Inexperienced candidates follow a structured, performance-based onboarding schedule:
- Experienced Applicants: $22.00 – $27.00 per hour starting rate. Please note that reaching the top end of this range ($25.00–$27.00/hr) is dependent upon direct hands-on experience with Gas Chromatography (GC) instrumentation.
- Inexperienced Applicants (Training Schedule): Starts at $19.00 per hour with guaranteed hourly increases of $1/hr at 60 days, 120 days, and at 180 days for a compensation rate of $22.00 / per hour at 180 days from hire date.
Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable Wastewater Analyst to join our private commercial laboratory team in the Greater Cleveland area. In this role, you will perform conventional wet chemistry testing on commercial, industrial, and municipal wastewater samples. Your work ensures accurate data delivery and strict compliance with Ohio EPA regulatory frameworks and NPDES permit limits.
Key Responsibilities
- Wet Chemistry Analysis: Run routine testing including, but not limited to, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), pH, and phosphorus.
- Instrumentation Support: Assist with or perform advanced testing using Gas Chromatography (GC) systems if experienced.
- Data Management: Record, verify, and log client data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Quality Assurance: Run routine QA/QC calibrations, blank checks, matrix spikes, and standardizations matching guidelines in the Ohio EPA Laboratory Manual.
- Instrument Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and basic troubleshooting on automated laboratory instrumentation and analyzers.
- Sample Handling: Receive, log, chain-of-custody track, and properly preserve incoming client grab and composite samples.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. A Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 1–2 years of hands-on laboratory experience is preferred, but not required. Prior exposure to Gas Chromatography (GC) instrumentation is a major plus. We provide comprehensive training for the right candidate.
- Certifications:
- Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License.
- OWEA Wastewater Laboratory Analyst Certification (Class I or II) is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, stand for long stretches, and safely handle standard laboratory chemicals.
