Water Service Technician

Company Overview

Water Runner is a premier water logistics and infrastructure provider in West Texas. We operate a fleet of water delivery trucks supported by our own private Public Water Systems (PWS) network, alongside an active commercial compliance, water treatment, and quality testing business. We keep the Permian Basin running by ensuring clean, safe, compliant water for our own fleet and our industrial clients, including man camps, gas plants, data centers and energy facilities.

Position Summary

Based out of Midland, Texas, the Water Service Technician is a junior field role designed for a motivated, hands-on individual ready to build a career in the water utilities and industrial service sector. Working under the guidance of our Field Service Manager and Water Operator (SME), you will handle a broad portfolio of field tasks—ranging from technical water quality testing to heavy equipment delivery and system maintenance.

This role requires extensive regional travel throughout West Texas. We provide a company service truck, a clear training path, and ample opportunities for overtime and per diem.

Key Responsibilities

1. Water Quality Testing & Field Compliance

• Travel daily to internal fleet distribution points and customer sites (man camps, gas plants, industrial facilities) to pull routine water samples.
• Perform basic on-site water chemistry tests (pH, chlorine residuals, turbidity) using handheld field equipment.
• Document findings accurately and maintain strict chain-of-custody protocols for lab submissions.

2. Field Service & Equipment Installation

• Assist with the delivery, positioning, hookup, and minor plumbing setup of commercial water storage tanks, filtration skids, and related equipment.
• Perform basic, hands-on preventative maintenance on water systems, such as replacing filters, checking valves, and cleaning components.
• Safely load, unload, and secure cargo and equipment on company trucks or trailers.

3. Systems Support & Problem Solving

• Support the construction and maintenance teams during facility upgrades, winterization prep, or system repairs.
• Clear, professional communication with site managers and customers while representing Water Runner in the field.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record (required to operate company field vehicles).
• Previous experience in water utility service, plumbing, mechanical trades, or oilfield services is preferred but not required. We will fully train the right attitude.
• Basic mechanical aptitude (comfort using hand tools, power tools, and moving heavy equipment).
• Physical ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, or windy West Texas weather conditions.
• Physical capacity to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly throughout the day.
