POSITION OPENING

Watauga County Department of Social Services (DSS) is accepting applications for the position of DSS Director.

Under general supervision, position directs all social service and public assistance activities and programs for the County. Coordinates work with the County Manager, DSS Advisory Board, department directors, and other human service agencies. Essential functions of the position include; evaluation of human services needs within the county; maintains records and files, and prepares reports; implementation of grant funded programs; develops plans and strategies for improving and coordinating services of community resources; and is responsible for preparation and monitoring of annual budget.

A comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methods of administration, planning, fiscal management, public assistance, social services policies and programs, and the laws upon which they are based is required.

Graduation from an accredited college or university supplemented by a Masters Degree in social work and extensive social work experience, or equivalent education and experience is required. Position must also meet and maintain all education, training, and experience requirements for position as defined by the State of North Carolina.

Salary dependent upon qualifications, $126,947 – 133,945.
