ATHLETIC TRAINING ROOM COORDINATOR

Summary Description

The position of Athletic Training Room Coordinator is a stipend-paid position during the academic school year. The Athletic Training Room Coordinator is responsible for the daily operation and management of the school athletic training room, assisting with the prevention and care of minor athletic injuries, maintaining records and supplies, coordinating communications among athletes, coaches, parents, and medical providers, and supporting the health and safety of student-athletes.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Training Room Operations

  • Establish and post daily hours of operation for the athletic training room.
  • Establish rules and procedures for the training room.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and functional training room environment.
  • Maintain inventories of athletic training supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for budgeting, ordering, stocking, and inventorying athletic training supplies.
  • Coordinate maintenance and replacement of training room equipment and supplies.

Athlete Support and Injury Management

  • Provide basic first aid and immediate care within the scope of training and district guidelines.
  • Assist with the recognition and reporting of athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Refer athletes to appropriate medical providers when injuries or medical concerns warrant evaluation.
  • Monitor injury reports and communicate athlete status to coaches and administration as appropriate.
  • Assist with implementation of injury prevention strategies and safe participation practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student health information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Health Care Administration

  • Complete and maintain appropriate documentation related to athlete injuries, treatments, incident reports, physician releases, and participation records.
  • Assist in coordinating emergency response procedures for athletic events and activities.
  • Maintain records related to physical examinations, insurance information, emergency contact information, and return-to-play documentation.
  • Serve as a resource for coaches, athletes, parents, and staff regarding athletic health and safety procedures.

Athletic Program Support

  • Attend assigned athletic contests and activities as directed by the Activities/Athletic Director.
  • Provide coverage for home athletic events as assigned.
  • Coordinate communications regarding athletic injuries and return-to-play status with athletes, parents, coaches, and medical providers.
  • Assist with the administration and monitoring of concussion management protocols, including ImPACT testing and follow-up procedures when directed.
  • Counsel and advise athletes regarding general health, safety, nutrition, and wellness topics.

Communication & Collaboration

  • The Athletic Training Room Coordinator serves as a liaison between coaches, athletes, parents, school administration, and health care providers to ensure proper communication and follow-up regarding athletic injuries and participation requirements.
  • This position coordinates with the Activities/Athletic Director to ensure the athletic training room is appropriately staffed, organized, and available to support athletic programs.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to sports medicine, injury prevention, safety, emergency response, and athletic program management.
  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan training and comply with all related regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, safety, accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Work cooperatively with principals, athletic directors, coaches, and district staff to support student-athlete health and safety.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and skills would be:

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent

Experience

    • Working in emergency medical services,
    • Athletic programs,
    • Health care support services,
    • Sports medicine environments, or a related field preferred
    • Experience coordinating records, schedules, inventory systems, or program operations is desirable.
Licenses/Certificates

    • A valid CPR/AED certification is required.
    • First Aid certification is required.
    • Additional emergency medical certifications may be preferred but are not required.

  • Ability to cover athletic events occurring after school, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to maintain inventory, order supplies, and assist with budgets for the training room.
