About the Position:

The Deputy State Fire Marshal 2 for the Fire Training Academy is responsible for developing and implementing curriculum, managing the delivery of classroom and practical firefighting training in accordance with established lesson plans ensuring adherence to current standards and requirements. Follows and enforces all safety regulations and policies ensuring a safe work environment is maintained. Works with staff and contract instructors to help implement, instruct, and schedule all training at the FTA. Works with maintenance staff to ensure safe operation of all props.

About the Division:

The Fire Training Division is one of two divisions within the Fire Protection Bureau. Outside of the Washington State Patrol, the FTD is known as the Fire Training Academy. The FTA operates a 51-acre live fire training facility located in North Bend, Washington and provides classroom, hands-on, and live fire training to the fire service, the military, law enforcement and other safety and industrial professionals. The FTA also coordinates and administers the Regional Direct Delivery which provides basic firefighter training to volunteers throughout the state in the communities they serve.

Duties

  • As a Program Chief at the Washington State Fire Training Academy, manages training through contract instructors in accordance with lesson plans, assuring all current applicable standards have been met while conducting live fire training and classroom presentations.
  • Trains and certifies part time fire support personnel to perform assigned duties correctly and safely. Coordinates with contract instructors and support personnel to provide required training.
  • Oversee and manage the division safety program, maintain knowledge of all aspect of safety associated with the FTA.

Schedule: Works 10 hours a day, four days a week.

Travel: Travel is required for delivery of training, attendance at conferences, and for meetings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver's License or able to obtain one within 30 days of employment for response to mobilizations.
  • Three years of; paid, volunteer, or fire service related experience or a combination to total three years of experience or five years of related experience scheduling, registering, and managing training needs in a relatable field.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in written format.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Knowledge of Live Fire Training and Safety Standards.
  • Ability to work with and provide leadership to contract instructors to ensure compliance with agency policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), National Fire Protection Administration (NFPA) and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) standards in order to ensure program compliance.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment polygraph examination and background investigation.
  • Obtain International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Fire Instructor I & II or recognized National Fire Protection Association Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications 1041 equivalent must be obtained
  • Must be able to wear personal protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus for extended periods of time
  • Obtain First Aid/CPR certification
  • Obtain EVIP certification
  • This position is part of the collective bargaining agreement.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $73, $98,520.00 per year
