Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is currently seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as the statewide Bridge Preservation Engineer. This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and longevity of Washington's critical infrastructure by overseeing compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS). In this role, you will provide executive-level direction to six units within the Bridge Preservation Office (BPO), guiding preservation strategy, risk reduction, and structural integrity efforts across the state. A successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in structural inspection programs, policy development, quality assurance, and program administration. They will be skilled in leading large, multidisciplinary teams and coordinating with local, state, and federal partners to maintain a comprehensive inventory of approximately 7,000 bridges and 56 tunnels across public roads statewide.
