Some Of What You Will Do
- Perform skilled journey-level carpenter work for all phases of the maintenance, repair, and construction of structures, walls, ceilings, floors, windows, sashes, doors, concrete structures, cabinets, furniture, fixtures, stairs, cupboards, roofs, lock replacement, and other building hardware.
- Build and repair buildings, sheds, scaffolds, and other structures from plans, sketches, or instructions.
- Lay flooring and carpeting.
- Work independently from blueprints and manufacturers' materials specifications.
- Operate trade-specific hand tools and power tools.
- Perform building and equipment condition and assessment reports, recommend work, and complete work requests to provide estimated time and materials used to complete work performed.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a carpenter.
- OR full journey-level status as a carpenter in a union.
- OR 4 years of applicable work experience. (Vocational training to be substituted for work experience on a year for year basis).
- Recent experience in construction and mechanical trades related to maintenance, repair, remodeling, and renovation work.
- Ability to use blueprints, plans, and sketches as needed to perform construction/mechanical work and to estimate materials and time needed to complete jobs.
- Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of carpentry trade, lumber types and grades, and safety precautions.
- Working knowledge and ability to use hand and power tools, sharpen and set saws.
