Position Summary

The role of the Chemistry Supervisor reports to the Director of Laboratory. This position will oversee daily chemistry operations, including supervising and training staff, ensuring quality control, maintaining equipment, and enforcing safety and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities for this position include coordinating workflows, troubleshooting technical issues, training personnel, managing inventory, and generating reports to ensure accurate and timely delivery of diagnostic results for patient care. 

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Oversee chemistry daily operations, manage staff schedules, and ensure efficient workflow to meet turnaround times for test results.
  • Hire, train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory personnel, provide feedback and ensure staff have opportunities for professional development, as part of the lab leadership team.
  • Implement and maintain quality control measures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all testing procedures and results.
  • Ensure documentation requirements for test performance characteristics are met and maintained.
  • Monitor, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure optimal performance. 
  • Ensure the laboratory adheres to all relevant local, state, and national regulations, as well as accrediting agency standards.
  • Manage the inventory of chemicals, reagents, and supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage. 
  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment, ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and proper handling of hazardous materials. 
  • Generate and analyze reports, providing data to support laboratory operations and decision-making. 
  • Work closely with other departments and medical staff to ensure seamless communication and effective delivery of services. 
  • Assist in preparing and managing budget related processes as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science or Clinical Laboratory Science program, required.  
  • Licensure and Certifications: ASCP, AMT or equivalent certification, required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant medical laboratory experience and meets qualifications of a Technical Supervisor of laboratories performing high complexity testing in accordance with CLIA regulations required.  Minimum of 2 years of medical laboratory leadership experience is preferred. Previous experience in regulatory compliance and accreditation standards of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), The Joint Commission (TJC) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).

Work Environment: This position will spend 60% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 lbs. This position will spend 40% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment. This position will be exposed to communicable disease and bodily fluids.
