Washington Outpatient Surgery Center, LLC (WOSC) is a multi-specialty center, with five operating rooms and two procedure rooms, that operates Monday through Friday. This is a full time position that will float between the Pre-op Admitting department and our Post Anesthesia Recovery (PAR) department (Phase I and Phase II Recovery), which includes our Overnight Recovery Unit (ORU), based on staffing needs and census.
Job Duties
- Participate as a team member in support of the total perioperative process
- Administer medications and perform safe, individualized care for the patients
- Effectively communicate with the team, physicians, and patient family members regarding the patient's status
- Develop a plan of care to meet patient's needs related to surgical condition
- Confirm that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice
- Maintain order and cleanliness of preoperative and postoperative area
- Obtain lab tests and results as indicated; report abnormal values per policy
- Explain perioperative plan of care to the patient/patient's family including what to expect during the recovery phase and how the family plays a role
- Provide nursing care to patients needing further recovery in the overnight recovery unit
- Perform postoperative telephone contact to assess patient's post-op status and provide further education and advise as needed
Required Education and License/Certification
- Associates level degree from an accredited school of nursing required; Bachelor's level preferred
- Active RN California License
- Current AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in an acute care facility preferred (in the last five years), in the admitting department, operating room, or post anesthesia recovery.
- ASC experience preferred
- Strong ethical and moral character references
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians and with their office personnel, coworkers, and other healthcare facilities in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner
- Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, and general public
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems
- Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
- Electronic Medical Record experience; EPIC experience preferred
