Valid Missouri Teacher’s certificate or eligibility for Missouri Teacher’s certification preferred but not required

Reports to (Daily):  Theatre Director 

Position Overview:  The School District of Washington is seeking a set builder to support the District’s theatre programming. Primary responsibilities are related to the Fall musical and Spring play.  The theatre program operates during our school year.  Ideal candidates demonstrate the ability to form safe relationships with students, effective  communication skills, high level organizational skills, and the ability to work with multiple  groups. 

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Assist and instruct student crew members with designing, constructing, assembling, painting, and maintaining stage sets and scenic elements for high school productions.
2. Work closely with the Theater Director to bring scenic designs to life while ensuring that all sets are functional, visually appealing, and safely constructed.
3. Responsibilities include woodworking, basic construction, scenic painting, set installation and removal, repairs, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
4. Supervise and provide direction to student crew members, teaching students appropriate construction techniques and ensuring that all students follow safety procedures while working on set construction.
5. Work with the Technical Director to request purchase orders to buy needed supplies and/or equipment.
6. Supervise students during construction, rehearsal,  and performances as related to this position. 
7. Regular and reliable attendance is necessary in order to perform the functions of this position.  
8. Perform associated roles as required for building operations and to respond in the event of an emergency. 
9. Perform other related duties as assigned or required for District operations.

Other Related Responsibilities:

1. Maintains appropriate student records and timelines.
2. Maintain equipment and resources.
3. Attend meetings as necessary for general operations related to this program.
4. Maintains confidential nature of all school related material.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  This position runs concurrently with our posted academic calendar and performance schedule [Fall/Spring]. This position is a stipend position paid at 5% of the posted teacher salary schedule, column BS 16.  Entry level into the column is dependent on experience with a limit of step 11.   Entry level pay is $2,194.35.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the WHS Administration. 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. Additionally, the employee may occasionally be required to push or lift up to 50 lbs as necessary for the safety and well-being of others. Lastly, this job requires the employee to have the vision ability to read handwritten or typed materials, and meet multiple demands from several people while interacting with other staff and the public.
