What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Carpentry Estimator position at Builder's Bloc?
Builder's Bloc Contracting is an employee-owned company that is experiencing sustained growth and as a result, is looking for a Commercial Carpentry Estimator and Account Representative with 5 years of experience estimating Metal Stud Framing Carpentry and Some Drywall experience on office buildouts, multifamily, commercial buildings and more. Some wood framed estimating experience a plus along with a strong work ethic and great people skills. This position is for someone with experience, that can help this semi-startup division of Builder's Bloc grow market share in our region as our 85% of our current business is residential. The Estimator position serves union labor force of over 200 Union Carpenters on Residential and Commercial projects as our company already does $50-$70 million per year, but looking to do more. Our Estimators are required to have strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Our office is located in Chesterfield, MO. Job sites are located throughout the St. Louis Metro Area. Compensation is base salary plus commission structure. Most successful candidates exceed $90,000 by year two in the estimator/sales role as 70% of quotes are to repeat customers.
Job Duties:
Use digital blueprints as well as hard copies of blueprints to create accurate labor and material takeoffs per plan and specifications.
Submit bid proposals to General Contractors by bid deadline.
Follow up on submitted bids.
Compile bid history to follow market pricing trends.
Attend preconstruction meetings with field supervision and field employees, discuss budgets, project scope, overview of project inclusions and exclusions.
Work with material vendors to keep pricing up to date.
Assist in gathering data for billing purposes.
Coordinate activities, materials procurement and other related activities with Project Manager and Field Staff.
Communicate progress and prepare appropriate reports weekly.
Qualifications:
5 years of experience in Metal Stud Carpentry Estimating.
Knowledge of On-Screen Takeoff or similar takeoff software.
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Detailed understanding of how to read plans and specifications according to the construction of a project.
Knowledge of pay items and job costing.
Adhere to quality control standards to ensure customer satisfaction.
Ability to initiate and maintain business relationships – including working effectively with owners, engineers, co-workers, subcontractors, suppliers, and the public.

Salary: $65,000.00 per year plus commission
