High Voltage Electrician – Pentagon Heating & Refrigeration Plant

About the Position
Join the elite team that keeps the Pentagon powered 24/7/365. You will work in the Pentagon’s Class-A Heating & Refrigeration Plant, a critical, high-reliability facility that generates and distributes steam, chilled water, high- and medium-voltage electricity, municipal water, natural gas, and handles sewage disposal for the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense.
This is mission-critical, high-voltage work in one of the most secure and iconic buildings on earth.
What You’ll Do
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage (up to 13.8 kV) electrical generation, distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, and controls.
- Work on specialized DoD systems including blast-protection circuits, electromagnetic pulse (EMP) filters, ground-fault sensing systems, and primary/secondary distribution networks.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial electrical/electronic systems tied to utility production and distribution.
- Respond to emergencies, including call-backs during national emergencies, severe weather, or plant failures (this is a Mission Essential / Key position).
- Safely work with live high-voltage equipment while wearing full arc-flash PPE, respirators, and other protective gear.
Required Qualifications (You must clearly show these in your resume)
- Journeyman-level experience performing – without more than normal supervision – the full range of high-voltage electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair in an industrial or power-plant environment.
- Hands-on experience with high-voltage systems (4.16 kV – 13.8 kV typical), switchgear, protective relaying, large transformers, and distribution equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
- Proficiency using electrical hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting complex electrical faults down to the component level.
Certifications & Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
- Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing
- Must pass pre-employment physical and annual physicals (including respirator fit test)
- Required to obtain NICET Level II Electrical Power Testing certification within 2 years of hire (employer-supported)
- Must wear uniform, steel-toe safety boots, arc-flash suit, respirator, and other PPE
- Willing to work rotating shifts (7-day, 2-shift operation), overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-backs
Physical Demands
Moderately heavy lifting, climbing poles/ladders, working in confined spaces, manholes, trenches, and at heights. You will be exposed to high voltage, high noise, and hazardous conditions daily.
