Position Overview
Experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer – Full-Time, In-Person Role in Northern Virginia
Seeking an experienced Fire Sprinkler Designer to lead system layouts, hydraulic calculations, and BIM coordination for commercial, residential, and mixed-use projects. Full-time, in-person role with competitive pay and benefits, serving DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and layout fire protection systems including wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and fire pump configurations
- Prepare detailed shop and installation drawings in compliance with NFPA codes and local standards
- Perform hydraulic calculations and generate material lists
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams to ensure seamless coordination
- Review architectural and MEP drawings to develop compliant system designs
- Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to 3D model integration (Navisworks, Revit, etc.)
- Conduct field surveys to validate design feasibility
- Support permit and submittal processes, including preparation of submittal packages
- Assist field personnel with design-related installation questions
- Prepare final close-out documentation following acceptance testing
Qualifications
Required:
- NICET Level II strongly preferred
- 5 years of experience in fire sprinkler design
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Strong knowledge of NFPA 13, 14, 20, and related codes
- Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering documents
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
· Experience with BIM coordination, including Navisworks, Revit, and clash detection workflows
· Familiarity with 3D modeling platforms and integration of fire protection systems into coordinated building models
· Detail oriented, strong organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must
