Custodian

Description

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of county buildings and public facilities. This role ensures a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for employees, visitors, and the public. Work is performed independently and may involve following a routine schedule as well as completing special cleaning projects as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of offices, restrooms, hallways, public areas, breakrooms, and meeting rooms.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and carpet-clean floors as required.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and fixtures.
• Remove trash and recycling from all designated areas and ensure proper disposal.
• Restock restroom and cleaning supplies (e.g., paper products, soap).
• Clean windows, glass doors, entryways, and interior partitions.
• Dust furniture, fixtures, ledges, vents, and equipment.
• Assist with room setup for county meetings, events, and public functions (tables, chairs, equipment).
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and supplies safely.
• Comply with county safety policies and follow all cleaning standards and procedures.
• Respond to urgent cleaning needs or spills in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills

• Previous janitorial, custodial, or building maintenance experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to use cleaning equipment (vacuums, floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, etc.).
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Pay: $16.50 - $19.00 per hour
