What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist position at WASHINGTON COUNTY HOSPITAL AND CLINICS?
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for collecting accurate blood specimens from inpatients and outpatients in a timely manner.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following)
- Collect blood specimens from in-patients and outpatients, remote locations, via venipuncture and skin puncture according to physician orders and applicable regulations, policies and procedures to ensure complete and accurate specimens for testing.
- Explain collection procedures and provides general testing information as needed to facilitate patient understanding and reduce patient anxiety.
- Respond to calls from Emergency Room, Nursing units, and Same Day Surgery for specimen collection as needed; procures Medical-surgical patient collections per schedule.
- Identify all patients according to laboratory policies. Label collection tubes and specimens with computer generated labels.
- Maintains inventory of department supplies as needed to ensure uninterrupted specimen collection.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma/GED required
- Valid Drivers license
- Phlebotomy certification or prior Phlebotomist experience preferred.
