Role Description: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Non-Profit Bookkeeper to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will manage the financial records of our organization, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency. Your expertise will support our mission-driven initiatives by maintaining precise bookkeeping practices, preparing financial reports, and ensuring adherence to nonprofit accounting standards. Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the organization’s financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms.
  • Record and reconcile all financial transactions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) for nonprofit organizations.
  • Conduct balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger accounting to ensure accuracy across all accounts.
  • Manage payroll processing and related tax filings in compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Assist with budget preparation, monitoring expenses against budgets, and providing account analysis to support organizational planning.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and maintain meticulous documentation for audits and reporting purposes.


Qualifications

  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, Quicken or similar platforms; experience with public accounting is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles including GAAP, governmental accounting, and double-entry bookkeeping.
  • Ability to work closely with volunteer leadership to prepare financial statements for the monthly Board of Directors meetings, including work with the volunteer Finance Committee
  • Expertise in bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, general ledger accounting, and balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of financial concepts related to debits & credits, journal entries, accounts payable & receivable, and tax experience relevant to nonprofits.
  • Ability to perform detailed account analysis and prepare comprehensive financial reports; experience with financial report writing is desirable.
  • Familiarity with budgeting processes and technical accounting practices within a nonprofit setting.
  • Excellent organizational skills including 10 key typing proficiency and attention to detail for accurate bookkeeping and recordkeeping. Join us in making a difference!
