Job Title: Title I Secondary ELA Tutor
Reports to: Principal or District Administration
Job Description:
A Title I Secondary ELA Tutor helps students improve their reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. They provide personalized instruction outside of school tailored to each student’s needs, focusing on grammar, vocabulary, essay writing, literary analysis, and reading comprehension. The tutor may assist with homework, test preparation, and the development of effective study habits. Their goal is to build students’ confidence and mastery of English language and literature concepts, supporting academic success and lifelong communication skills.
Qualifications:
- Teacher Certification in Secondary English
Duties:
- Assess students’ strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles to help guide personalized assistance.
- Provide instruction in reading comprehension, writing mechanics, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Guide students through literary analysis and interpretation of texts.
- Assist with essay writing, research papers, and creative writing assignments.
- Support students in preparing for standardized tests and classroom assessments.
- Offer constructive feedback to improve writing clarity, structure, and coherence.
- Monitor and track student progress, adjusting lessons as needed.
- Encourage a positive learning environment that fosters confidence and curiosity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Compensation for tutoring outside the school day:
$25.00 per hour
