Position Summary

The Manager of Information Technology is responsible for the day-to-day management, operation, maintenance, and support of the District’s technology infrastructure and services. This is a hands-on, field-based position that works directly with staff, schools, vendors, and the IT team to ensure reliable operation of hardware, software, networks, systems, and technology services.

The Manager will provide leadership and direction to the IT team while remaining actively engaged in troubleshooting, technology implementation, system support, equipment deployment, and resolving technology issues across the District.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the District’s IT Department and technology services.
  • Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting for hardware, software, networking, devices, and other technology systems.
  • Work directly in schools and District facilities to assess, diagnose, and resolve technology issues.
  • Support the installation, configuration, maintenance, replacement, and deployment of computers, laptops, peripherals, network equipment, servers, wireless systems, and other technology.
  • Assist with the implementation, administration, and ongoing support of District software applications and technology systems.
  • Provide technical support for major software implementations, upgrades, integrations, and system changes.
  • Monitor network and system performance and work with IT staff and vendors to resolve outages and technical issues.
  • Lead and support technology projects from planning through implementation, including coordinating timelines, equipment, vendors, testing, and deployment.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and support IT staff, including assigning work, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, and providing technical guidance.
  • Serve as a hands-on resource for IT staff and assist with complex technical issues and escalated support requests.
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and contractors regarding hardware, software, telecommunications, networking, and technology services.
  • Assist with cybersecurity, system security, user access, data protection, backups, and technology-related security practices.
  • Manage technology inventory, equipment records, warranties, licenses, subscriptions, and replacement schedules.
  • Assist with the development and management of the annual IT budget and monitor expenditures throughout the fiscal year.
  • Coordinate IT purchasing, purchase orders, contracts, invoices, and related fiscal documentation.
  • Prepare and coordinate technology-related School Committee agenda items, supporting documentation, and required memoranda.
  • Ensure technology purchases and services comply with District purchasing procedures and applicable requirements.
  • Support eRate activities and coordinate with the District’s eRate service provider.
  • Develop and maintain IT procedures, documentation, technical standards, and operational processes.
  • Respond to technology emergencies and critical system issues and coordinate appropriate resolution.
  • Provide technology support and guidance to administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Remain current on emerging technology, hardware, software, networking, cybersecurity, and K-12 technology practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant professional experience in information technology, including experience with hardware, software, networking, systems administration, troubleshooting, and technology implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a hands-on IT environment.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network, and systems-related problems.
  • Experience supporting technology across multiple locations or facilities.
  • Experience managing or implementing software applications and technology systems.
  • Experience supervising, leading, or coordinating IT personnel and/or technology projects.
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and respond effectively to urgent technology issues.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between District facilities as required.

Education and Certifications

An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field is preferred; however, relevant professional experience and industry certifications will be considered in lieu of a degree.
