What are the responsibilities and job description for the K9 Manager position at Warriors Heart?
Warriors Heart is hiring a K9 Manager for our in house K9 program. Warriors Heart provides K9 classes to our clients and trains companion, emotional support and service dogs.
The K9 Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining the kennels, supervision of kennel employees and volunteers, health and welfare of K-9s, and implementation and supervision of Warriors Heart Elective program.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in dog training (obedience, emotional support and service)
Knowledge of addiction, PTSD, depression, etc.
Able to work under pressure and communicate effectively
Must be fluent in reading, writing and speaking the English language
Knowledgeable on Computer (word, excel, mac platforms, keynote, etc)
CPR and First Aid Certification
Current cleared TB skin test
Valid Drivers License in good standings
Pass an annual Background Clearance
Minimum of 1 year of continuous sobriety (if in recovery)
Willing to submit to random drug and alcohol screening (and pass)
Functions included within the scope of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Manage and maintain the kennel
- Evaluate local shelter dogs for inclusion in the K9 Program.
- Transport qualified dogs to the K9 Program at Warriors Heart.
- Maintain the day-to-day health and welfare of K9 Program dogs.
o Oversee the provision of food, water, and proper care for all K9 Program dogs by adhering to schedules and protocols within Warriors Heart policy.
o Monitor the care of all K9 program dogs, including those that may be isolated or quarantined, for signs of illness or unusual behavior.
- Maintain all canine-related equipment.
- Perform basic canine emergency first-aid as needed.
- Maintain complete and thorough records associated with the K9 Program dogs including, but not limited to:
o Acquisition records
o Health and immunization records
o Training records, to include all records of when the dog was initially trained, to what standards, using what techniques, and by whom.
o Testing records and all certification and validation testing.
- Supervises the cleaning and disinfecting of kennels, cages, equipment, runs and other areas of the facility with appropriate cleaning agents in order to maintain a healthy, clean, safe and sanitary facility.
- Supervises, schedules, trains, reviews work and evaluates canine trainers and volunteers.
- Schedules work assignments of kennel personnel and schedules routine maintenance. Maintains records on overtime, holiday scheduling and other personnel actions.
- Oversees the providing of information to the public, including individuals who may be angry, hostile or distraught, in search of lost or adoptable pets according to established laws
Advise and implement, if approved, any city, state, or national dog programs we may like to join Prepares orders for equipment and supplies.
- Investigates and corrects problems
- Prepares report on kennel operations for Warriors Heart meetings.
- Review work activities, policies and procedures for efficiency and effectiveness. Recommends appropriate changes.
- Coordinates in-service training for personnel.
