Purpose of Position:
- The purpose of the Part-Time Custodian position is to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for employees, visitors, and the public by performing routine cleaning and sanitation duties, ensuring facilities are presentable and in compliance with health and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cleans all assigned areas, including, but not limited to, dusting/polishing furniture, walls doors, benches and woodwork, cleaning floor mats, washing blinds, windows and window sills, sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing and buffing floors, and vacuuming carpets.
- Cleans and disinfects restrooms, including, but not limited to, disinfecting and cleaning urinals, toilets and sinks, checking and refilling paper products and soap dispensers, washing walls and mirrors, sweeping and mopping floors, and emptying trash cans.
- Empties trash containers, including carry trash bags to pick-up site, inserting clean liners and periodically cleaning trash containers as needed.
- Maintains supply inventories, checking stocking levels of all supplies and materials, and orders/replaces material when necessary or required.
- Operates a variety of equipment in performance of duties, including, but not limited to power washer, floor cleaner, mop, broom, carpet cleaner, vacuum cleaner, shop vac, and other equipment as needed.
- Ensures proper care and storage of maintenance equipment and a variety cleaning chemicals. Performs related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:
- Weekdays, part-time vary from week to week. Standard part-time hours shall not exceed 28 hours per week. Standard hours assigned from Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Job Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of department safety policies and procedures and basic janitorial and sanitation requirements for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Working knowledge of maintenance practices, building upkeep, with ability to complete renovations/repairs on buildings and equipment.
- Knowledge of safety precautions and practices applicable to working with a variety of cleaning chemicals and pesticides, with ability to read and understand equipment manuals and label directions for correct mixing and use of cleaning supplies and/or pesticides.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment in performance of duties, including, but not limited to, power washer, floor cleaner, mop, broom, carpet cleaner, vacuum cleaner, shop vac, and other equipment as needed.
- Ability to physically perform custodial duties, including standing/walking for long periods, lifting objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds, carrying and pushing/pulling objects, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, climbing ladders, handling/grasping/fingering objects.
- Ability to work alone with minimum supervision.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
- Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
- Ability to provide public access to or maintain department information and records according to state requirements.
- Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to occasionally work extended hours, weekends, and evenings.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and demonstrated safe driving record.
Responsibility:
- Incumbent's assignments are guided by definite objectives using a variety of methods or procedures. Work priorities are primarily determined by a flexible, customary routine, supervisor, and service needs of the public.
- Incumbent refers to supervisor when interpretations of departmental policies, programs, expenditures are thought necessary. Work errors are primarily detected or prevented through standard safety procedures or notification from other County personnel or the public.
- Incumbent reports directly to the County Administrator.
Personal Work Relationships:
- Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, court personnel, and the public for the purposes of exchanging information and rendering service.
Physical Effort and Work Environment:
- Incumbent's duties involve standing/walking for long periods, sitting/walking at will, lifting objects weighing 25 to 50 pounds, carrying and pushing/pulling objects, reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling, climbing ladders, working in confined areas, close/far vision, color perception, and handling/grasping/fingering objects.
- Incumbent performs duties in both indoor and outdoor settings, involving exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, and dirt, heights normally associated with maintenance duties, excessive noise, varying weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and slippery surfaces. Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others.
- Incumbent occasionally works extended hours, weekends, and evenings.
