Warren Wilson College is seeking a Director of Global Engagement to lead a dynamic, justice‑oriented vision for international and cross‑cultural learning on our campus. This role sits within the Center for Experiential Learning and Careers (CELC) and plays a key part in shaping how students explore the world through place-based learning - whether through study away programs, international student support, and both local and globally focused experiential education.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of the CELC, the Director of Global Engagement leads the Global Engagement Office with a steady mix of vision and hands-on guidance. They shape and support both long‑ and short‑term study away opportunities, cultivate and sustain international partnerships, and serve as a trusted resource for students and faculty navigating global learning experiences. The role also oversees International Student and Scholar Services, functioning as the College’s DSO/RO and ensuring international students receive comprehensive support, from visa advising and pre‑arrival preparation to orientation and ongoing care throughout their time on campus.

The ideal candidate has significant experience in higher education, with a strong background in study abroad or international student services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three to five years of professional work experience in a role related to study abroad, international student support, or travel logistics preferably in higher education.
  • One to two years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and team-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from a diverse range of identities and experiences especially International students.
  • Demonstrated technological skills in the use of CRM systems, data collection and analysis, and proficiency with Google Suite and MS Office.
  • A deep understanding and appreciation for the mission of a liberal arts education.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive campus fleet vehicles as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in international education, Higher Ed Administration, or other related field.
  • One or more years of experience serving as DSO/ARO/RO.
  • Working professional knowledge in a language other than English.
  • Experience living, working, studying, or volunteering outside of your home culture.
  • Demonstrated experience administering Terra Dotta software.

Key Responsibilities

Manage Off Campus Studies:

  • Drive the vision, best practices, and implementation of the College’s portfolio of study away & place-based programs:
    • Create and maintain collaboration agreements and exchanges and serve as the main liaison between the College and partner institutions and consortia;
    • Guide Global Engagement programs and relevant committees in the annual proposal process, selection, and promotion of study away Worldwide courses;
    • Collaborate with relevant departments to develop and administer new program formats such as Lightning Term courses.
  • Serve as the primary emergency contact during travel for all study away-ers.
  • Craft, disseminate, and interpret information and policies regarding global engagement programs to prospective and current students, faculty, staff, and off-campus service providers.
    • Serve as chair of the Global Engagement Advisory Group (GEAG) and organize, plan, and lead advisory group meetings throughout the academic year;
    • Maintain a high level of professional knowledge of best practices in the field of international education and international scholar services, and maintain policies and processes in accordance with those practices.
  • Deliver or oversee hands-on counseling and advising to students interested in study away programs.
  • Manage the communication stream with incoming exchange students and visiting scholars through their admissions applications, pre-arrival planning and visa preparations.

Manage International Student & Scholar Services:

  • Serve as DSO for all F-1 visas and RO for all J-1/J-2 visas and keep up to date on Department of State and Homeland Security regulations.
  • Plan, communicate, and coordinate all programming for international student orientation in collaboration with appropriate campus offices.
  • Provide ongoing, wrap-around support to international students throughout their time on campus Including academic, financial, student life, programing both on and off campus, and mental health support.
  • Serve as US-based emergency contact for all international students.
  • Manage the Warren Wilson English Language Learning Program.

Manage Global Engagement Office:

  • Report overall program statistics and analysis to the Deputy Director on an annual basis, and gather, prepare and review program information for short- and long-term planning and institutional needs.
  • Manage the full operational budget of GEO and exercise independent judgment and initiative in maintaining and revising sensitive data.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate student workers with the support of the Work Program Office.
  • Co-supervise the Assistant Director of Community and Global Engagement.
  • Manage timely, accurate and thorough written and verbal communication from GEO including publications, promotional materials, and website updates.
  • Provide leadership in planning, promoting and executing campus events related to global engagement. Forge collaboration agreements and exchanges and serve as main liaison between the College and partner institutions and consortia.
  • Collaborate with the CELC to provide and expand experiential education initiatives.
  • Support School of Record relationships based on best practices.
