What are the responsibilities and job description for the WMS Reading Teacher position at Warren School District?
Purpose: To provide strategies for teaching and supporting students in the Academic and Strategic Reading classes.
The reading teacher provides targeted, evidence-based reading interventions for students who demonstrate difficulties in reading, including those identified with dyslexia, and supports students who are struggling to read at grade level. This role focuses on early identification, intensive instruction, and ongoing progress monitoring to help students develop essential literacy skills and achieve academic success.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver small-group and one-on-one reading interventions using research-based instructional strategies and programs (e.g., Take Flight, Sonday, iReady, Lexia Powerup, etc).- Design and implement individualized learning plans based on student assessments and learning needs.
- Support students identified with dyslexia and other reading challenges in accordance with state guidelines and standards.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and parents to ensure coordinated support.
- Conduct regular assessments (screenings, diagnostics, progress monitoring) and use data to guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide reports to stakeholders as needed.
- Participate in professional development focused on reading intervention, dyslexia, and related literacy strategies.
- Serve as a resource and advocate for literacy and dyslexia awareness within the school community.
