Description

As an Access Services Associate  (hourly non-exempt range between $18.02 to $20.73 DOE) , you'll work an average of 16 weekly hours including two weekend shifts per month. The weekly schedule is Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Weekend hours are Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Sunday hours are from Labor Day to Memorial Day and are paid at time and half).


As one of the first faces patrons see when they enter the library, you will help set the tone for a positive and welcoming visit. Each week, you will:  


  • Provide exceptional customer service to library patrons, assisting them with various library services and resources.
  • Operate the Welcome Desk efficiently, processing check-outs, check-ins, renewals, and holds.
  • Handle cash register transactions accurately and responsibly.
  • Assist patrons with locating materials, checking out and returning items, and answering basic reference questions.
  • Address patron inquiries, complaints, overdue materials, and lost items professionally and promptly.
  • Renew library materials and issue library cards while ensuring patron privacy.
  • Shelve materials accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist in keeping the library clean and organized.
  • Assist with library displays, promotions, and the preparation of materials for outreach visits.
  • Assist with various tasks as needed to support the Access Services department, such as picking up from the remote drop or filling in for outreach visits.

Requirements

Education: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.


Experience: 

  • High-level customer service experience.


Additional Requirements: 

  • Clean driving record 
  • Driver's license in good standing to meet insurability requirements for driving library vehicles.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.

  

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • The role involves a mix of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Frequent interaction with the public is expected.
  • Ability to lift and carry light materials (up to 40 lbs).
