Job Title: Food Services/Cook I

Department: Warren County Jail

Reports to: Head Cook and Warden

Supervises: Inmate Kitchen Workers

Grade & Wage: $16.56 Per Hour (Non-Exempt)

Status: Part time (24 hours per week), Non-Exempt, Union

Qualifications: Must be able to coordinate preparation of all daily meals of inmates in a correctional setting and performs other duties as required Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate and prior experience in a correctional facility kitchen is preferred. Must posses a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Requirements: Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner. Must possess knowledge of health codes, jail standards, food nutritional values, dietary requirements, and the principles and practices of preparing hot and cold meals for a large group. Must have the ability to prepare quality food, work with others, follow directions and to react quickly and calmly in an emergency and assists in an evacuation.

Job Functions: Training and Monitoring inmates in food preparation, cleaning, and storage in designated food service areas. Security and control of inmates assigned to the kitchen area and accountability of all equipment, food, and supplies.

Provides daily food service reports, ensure compliance of sanitation and cleaning standards. Conducts safety checks of food service equipment. Assist with cooking, serving, general cleaning, and receiving food supplies shipments

Physical/Mental Conditions:

Must be able to record convey and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions. Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position, demonstrate emotional stability, resourcefulness in decision-making and problem solving.
