REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate OR demonstrated progress toward
obtaining a G.E.D., as required by Kentucky law
AND
four (4) years food service experience
Must complete training course for certification of beginning school food service personnel as prescribed in 702
KAR 6:045. Pursuant to 7 CFR parts 210 and 235, employee must complete mandatory annual training
requirements
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Good general health and capable of heavy lifting
Positive attitude toward children, staff and school
Hold and maintain a Level 2 Certification in School Nutrition, aligned with USDA Professional Standards OR
obtain within one (1) school year of employment
Has knowledge of:
Meal production planning and scheduling
Applicable District, Federal and State laws, rules and regulations related to food service
Quantity food preparation and food merchandising; use and care of institutional equipment and utensils
Health and safety rules and regulations pertaining to food establishments, including sanitation and
maintenance regulations
Procedures used in ordering, receiving, storing and inventorying food and supplies
Principles and practices of supervision and training
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Food Service Manager I will manage and coordinate the day to day NDS operations of an assigned school site,
assuring compliance with District, State and Federal requirements and laws regarding nutrition, sanitation,
safety and record keeping; will select, assign, schedule, supervise, direct and evaluate assigned NDS personnel;
assist the NDS Manager II in the day to day operations; ensure the safe and efficient operation of the school
cafeteria fo the ultimate health, wellness and overall benefit of students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES & EVALUATION CRITERIA
Maintains high standards of control for quality food production and service
Manages, coordinates and oversees the day to day food service operations at an assigned school site; analyzes
effectiveness, assures compliance with District, State and Federal laws, regulations and safety and sanitation
procedures
Maintains quality standards for the presentation and service of food in a pleasant environment
WARREN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Prepares menus, assuring compliance with regulations and requirements; estimates and orders amount of food
and supplies needed; monitors and controls expenditures; maintains assigned budget
Selects NDS employees; directs, assigns, schedules and evaluates NDS personnel; conducts training sessions for
new employees; plans work schedules and coordinates daily work for efficient use of labor; receive calls from
employees and call substitutes, as necessary
Inspects lunchroom and kitchen area daily to assure compliance with health, safety and sanitation
requirements and regulations
Trains and assists employees in the proper handling of foods, correct use and care of equipment and in
maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety
Maintains, prepares and reviews a variety of menu production records, inventories, logs and reports;
accumulates data and in put s information into a computer, as appropriate and files documents, as necessary
Supervises and participates in flood preparation and distribution to District students and staff; plans for catered
events, such as meetings, activities and parties; plans and coordinates NDS operations with school activities to
improve school and community relations and increase student participation
Operates point of service system to ensure accurate meal counting and claiming of meals
Communicates with students, staff, faculty and outside organizations to exchange information, receive
suggestions and resolve issues related to NDS
Participates in, schedules and attends in -service meetings and workshops
Performs other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work often requires
standing, walking, bending, squatting and reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy weights. The
work requires activities involving exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity and driving
automotive equipment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Number of days worked will be determined by the current school calendar adopted by the Warren County Board
of Education. Salary shall be commensurate with adopted classified personnel salary schedule. Leave accrual
will be as stated in Board Policy.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Warren County Board of Education
policy on evaluation of classified/certified personnel and in accordance with evaluation requirements of any
subcontracting agency. Evaluations will be conducted by the NDS Manager II, with input from the building
Principal and Director of Nutrition & Dining and/or his/her designee.
