Requirements for this position include: residence within the state of New Jersey, a high school diploma or GED equivalent, a valid driver’s license, an ability to pass a thorough background/criminal investigation, a level of physical fitness which enables the individual to pass the requirements established by the New Jersey Police Training Commission (NJPTC), and an ability to complete a related course of study at an approved NJPTC Academy.
Basic duties of this position include, but may not be limited to: being directly responsible for the detention, safety, and welfare of an adult inmate population; processing/releasing offenders into/from custody; diffusing high stress situations; rendering assistance in crisis scenarios; completing annual training in firearms, self-defense, first-aid, and numerous other Attorney General mandates; and transportation and recovery of inmates and fugitives.
