The Staff Accountant will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, and supporting various accounting functions. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to contributing to the financial success of our company. Additionally, we will be looking for someone with experience collaborating with finance and other business partners, who drives process improvement and works efficiently and independently. The candidate for this role will be someone who has driven process improvements and automation in the past and bring that mindset to our organization.
This role will also support the treasury cash management function outside of accounting close, providing opportunities to better learn the business, its operations and funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update the general ledger by recording transactions, adjustments, and journal entries
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and company policies
- Conduct mid-level general-ledger account reconciliations, verify accuracy of data, and identify and correct errors made by internal and external personnel
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closes, including assigned journal entries, balance- sheet account reconciliations, accruals, and overall maintenance of operational management accounts
- Assist in providing schedules and commentary for operational management account results and variances, and for the production of working-capital cash-flow reports
- Maintain and update records and reports for profit and loss, taxes, liabilities, and assets
- Prepare special financial reports, when requested by senior managers, by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
- Process vendor invoices, verify accuracy, and ensure timely payments
- Reconcile accounts payable transactions and resolve discrepancies
- Generate and send customer invoices
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on overdue payments, and reconcile customer accounts
- Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts to ensure accuracy
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports
- Provide support for internal and external audits
- Monitor and track company expenses, ensuring compliance with budgetary guidelines
- Analyze and report on expense trends
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts
- Other related duties as assigned or needed
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Proficient in using accounting software and MS Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in accounting or finance
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license a plus
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Staff Accountant or a similar role
- Experience with GL systems/ERPs in a corporate environment with tight accounting close deadlines
- Experience with external audits
- Experience in real estate or land development industry is a plus
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- The environment is a fully in-office environment in Tampa just west of the airport. Those needing remote or hybrid arrangements should not apply.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises.
