Program Director
Warehouse Workers for Justice (WWJ) is a worker center fighting for good, living-wage jobs among the thousands of logistics workers in the Chicago region, one of the largest logistics hubs in the country. We build worker power through leadership development, community alliances, policy advocacy, and innovative organizing. Our work centers on racial and economic justice, ensuring that warehouse and supply chain workers have a voice on the job and in their communities.
Position Overview:
The Program Director plays a key leadership role in advancing WWJ’s mission by overseeing the organization’s community outreach, education, and engagement programs. The Director will supervise and support coordinating staff, ensure program goals and deliverables are met, and help strengthen WWJ’s overall impact through strategic coordination, staff development, and collaboration across departments.
This role requires an experienced and motivated leader with a deep commitment to social and economic justice, strong management skills, and the ability to balance day-to-day coordination with big-picture strategy.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team leading community and worker outreach, education, and engagement initiatives.
- Ensure program deliverables, campaign goals, and grant objectives are met on a monthly and annual basis.
- Develop and implement systems for tracking outcomes, data collection, and evaluation to measure program impact.
- Coordinate with the organizing, policy, and communications teams to ensure alignment of WWJ’s priorities and strategies.
- Support the professional growth and training of staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture within and across departments.
- Host and coordinate virtual and in-person workshops, trainings, and community events that build worker leadership and power. Support and train other staff to do the same.
- Assist teams in developing effective outreach plans, “raps,” and organizing strategies.
- Represent WWJ in coalition meetings, partner convenings, and public events.
- Support the Executive Director in maintaining and cultivating relationships with funders and identifying new funding opportunities.
- Complete monthly grant and program reports in coordination with development staff.
- Contribute to strategic planning and long-term organizational development.
- Collaborate with the communications team to meet grant goals and to highlight program successes and build organizational visibility.
- Ensure all programs advance WWJ’s mission, values, and equity goals.
Qualifications
- 3 - 5 yearsof supervisory experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic field and outreach plans.
- Strong facilitation skills; experience leading trainings, meetings, and public events with diverse groups.
- Excellent communication, planning, and time management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
- Commitment to equity, worker rights, and social justice.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.
- Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
- Organizing background is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
- Proficiency (intermediate) in computer and writing skills (Google Workspace, Word, Excel, Canva, etc.).
- Spanish proficiency strongly preferred.
