Job Title: EMS Deputy Chief
Department: EMS
Pay Grade: 22 ($28-32/hr)
FLSA Status: Exempt

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. • Supervises the work of departmental personnel involved in emergency medical
assistance and clerical work; assigns tasks to personnel.
• Develops and distributes shift assignments to personnel.
• Procures all equipment and supplies used by the department.
• Maintains job performance records on all employees.
• Coordinates departmental responses and operating policies and procedures with
those of other related agencies.
• Recommends all actions relating to the discipline, promotion, demotion and
dismissal of personnel.
• Serves as departmental communications liaison to other area medical and
emergency response systems and services.
• Coordinates the provision of in-service training for personnel; maintains all
training and certification records.
• Oversees office procedures related to the billing and processing of accounts.
• Prepares and reviews departmental payroll records.
• Serves as infection control officer for the EMS; coordinates the implementation of
related procedures.
• Attends training sessions and seminars as required.
• Performs the duties of a paramedic (see EMS/6) as needed for emergency or
disaster calls.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and departmental policies
and procedures.
• Knowledge of the geography and road system of the county.
• Knowledge of county budgeting and purchasing procedures.
• Knowledge of basic accounting practices.
• Knowledge of basic and advanced emergency medical and life-sustaining
techniques, including cardiac care, trauma and shock care, and ventilation and
other CPR techniques.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of infection control procedures.
• Skill in management and supervision.
• Skill in driving, emergency and otherwise.
• Skill in the administration of emergency medical techniques.
• Skill in written and oral communication.
• Skill in maintaining records and preparing reports.
• Skill in making decisions accurately and rapidly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of
a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to occupational field.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and
functions of the subunits in the division/ department in order to direct and
coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require
three to five years of related experience.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain appropriate state EMS certification.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the
State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
