What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Vehicle Technician position at Ward Diesel Filter Systems?
The right candidate will have a solid foundation in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and other components of emergency vehicles, including ambulances, fire trucks and rescue units. This position requires technical expertise in heavy trucks and a strong understanding of the specific demands and safety standards of emergency vehicles. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task is essential as there are multiple projects simultaneously being worked on.
Roles and Responsibilities
· Inspects, diagnose and repairs diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, air conditioning and other vehicle components.
· Performs routine preventive maintenance on emergency vehicles to ensure optimal performance and reliability, including but not limited to changing oil, checking fluids, and inspecting critical parts.
· Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify issues, troubleshoot problems and make necessary repairs to emergency vehicles, ensuring that they meet safety standards.
· Assist in making necessary adjustments or modifications to emergency vehicles based on specific customer requirements or regulatory standards.
· Provides rapid response repairs for emergency vehicles that are out of service, ensuring that vehicles are up and running in a timely manner.
· Ensures that all repairs and services meet applicable safety regulations, standards, and industry guidelines.
· Accurately documents all repairs and maintenance performed, including labor hours, parts used and work completion.
· Communicate with vehicle operators and management teams to provide updates on repairs and address any concerns regarding the performance of the emergency vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED three (3) years in the maintenance, repair and computerized diagnosis of medium/heavy diesel trucks and emergency vehicles; or
· An associate’s degree in automotive technology or a related field two (2) years of hands-on medium/heavy diesel trucks and emergency vehicles experience; or
· An equivalent combination of training experience with medium/heavy diesel trucks and emergency vehicles experience.
· Clean driving record as this position will require use of company vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
· ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in heavy truck Diesel or a related field.
· Strong technical knowledge of heavy truck diesel engine operations, diagnostics, and repair techniques, with an understanding of both electrical and hydraulic systems.
· Ability to diagnose equipment problems and to effect safe and efficient repairs.
· Must be able to communicate effectively and persuasively.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
