What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Vehicle Painter and Body Technician position at Ward Apparatus, LLC?
The right candidate will have a solid knowledge of how to paint surfaces and apply this knowledge towards the surface preparation and painting of Emergency Vehicles. Said candidate will also have experience in restoring the structural integrity and appearance of damaged Emergency Vehicles. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task is essential as there are multiple projects simultaneously being worked on.
Roles and Responsibilities:
· Sands, grinds or blasts vehicle surfaces to remove old paint, rust and imperfections;
· Applies body filler and primer to repair dents or scratches;
· Cleans and marks off areas that shouldn’t be painted (e.g., windows, lights);
· Mixes paint colors to match client specifications;
· Buffs, polishes and waxes painted surfaces for a smooth, glossy finish;
· Removes damaged body parts and hammers out dents before fitting replacement parts;
· Uses welding equipment and metalworking tools to repair and reshape metal parts;
· Follows safety procedures and uses protective gear to avoid inhalation of fumes; and
· Assists coworkers in the operation and set up of specific paint equipment and paint processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High school diploma or GED two (2) years’ experience in a related field in the restoration and painting of automotive bodies; or
· Technical degree in Auto Body Repair and two (2) years’ experience in a related field; or
· Four (4) years’ experience in the automotive paint and body repair field; and
· ASE/I-CAR Certification a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
· Knowledge of computerized paint-matching systems to ensure color accuracy;
· Skill with applying primer, base coat and clear coat using spray guns in a paint booth;
· Ability to rig and work from scaffolding;
· Knowledge of interpreting blueprints and/or shop drawings for product specifications;
· Experience with the different types of repairs required between unibody and full frame;
· Ability to blend and match paint for spot repairs (i.e. scratches, chips);
· Ability to diagnose equipment problems and to effect safe and efficient repairs; and
· Must be able to communicate effectively.
