Position Summary

Walsh University is seeking a Graduate Assistant to support the Human Anatomy area within the School of Behavioral & Health Sciences.  Walsh University believes in the desirability of a small university that promotes academic excellence, a diverse community and close student teacher interactions. The Graduate Assistant will work closely with the Director of Human Anatomy to provide support to within the School, specifically the Human Anatomy area. This is a 10 hour/week position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists faculty with upkeep of anatomy laboratory including cleaning & maintaining lab equipment and facility.
• Prepares teaching specimens through dissection, meeting quality expectations and productivity deadlines.
• Assures proper maintenance of human anatomical specimens, including lifting, turning and transferring donors (with assistance).
• Manages and disposes of chemicals in accordance with university policy and local, state and national laws.
• Maintains an environment that is respectful of anatomical donors and of faculty, staff, and students.
• Works independently on lab projects.
• Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of laboratory facilities.
• Cleans lab tools, dissection equipment, and work areas.
• Operates general lab equipment including saws and surgical tools.
• Maintains lab safety and security.
• Mixes and properly labels chemical solutions for use in the lab.
• Enters data and maintains routine logs for lab duties, specimens, supplies.
• Demonstrates a solid knowledge of rules and regulations that govern the operation of the anatomy laboratory.
• Maintains donor dignity and anonymity.
• Responds to inquiries regarding general laboratory procedures, policies, safety, security.
• Supports Walsh faculty, staff, and students involved in educational programs conducted in the anatomy lab.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required and admittance into a Graduate Program at Walsh University. Successful completion of an advanced human anatomy course at the graduate level is required. This position is available to full-time Walsh University graduate students only. 

Work Experience: The following are preferred.

• Experience in a human cadaver laboratory is preferred. 
• Experience with prosection creation.
• Experience as a tutor or teaching assisting in anatomy.

• Lifting up to 50 lbs with or without assistance. 
• Ability to use various cleaning agents to maintain cleanliness of the lab
• Standing to prepare anatomical specimens
• Assure proper maintenance of human anatomical specimens, including the ability to lift, turn, push/pull and transfer donors (with assistance)
• Ability to operate general lab equipment including saws and surgical tools
• Ability to hear, speak, read and understand lab safety and security procedures.
• Ability to mix and properly label chemical solutions for use in the lab
• Manual dexterity to use a computer and enter data.
