What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Education Academic Advisor position at Walsh Community Education Center?
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 11:00 - 8:00 p.m. / Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
40 hours per week / 46 Weeks
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate. K-12 Counseling Endorsement preferred.
- Knowledge of Michigan Merit Curriculum Graduation requirements.
- Academic advising experience.
- Experience assessing, issuing, and evaluating secondary credits.
- An interest/experience in working with adult students.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic counseling to current and prospective students.
- Evaluate transfer transcripts from other academic institutions including foreign issued for equivalencies and application to goal.
- Monitor academic progress of student; analyze progress reports from instructors; determine eligibility and satisfactory progress toward goal; refer students to appropriate resources for assistance.
- Actively engage with and build rapport with students, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that promotes student success and well-being.
- Maintenance of student records, coordination, preparation, and maintenance of credit evaluations.
- Assist students in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
- Recommend students for graduation.
- Learn and follow district, state, and federal guidelines for graduation and grants.
- Identify options for students to satisfy degree requirements; evaluate and make recommendations for student classes and program plan.
- Facilitate student exploration and preparation for diverse post-secondary pathways, including college, trade school, and direct entry into the workforce. This includes providing resources on career opportunities, application processes, and financial aid.
- Work with College and Career Readiness Standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
