Primary Purpose: Work under minimal supervision to plan, coordinate, and execute the district’s marketing, public relations, and journalistic efforts. This role is responsible for promoting campus and district initiatives, highlighting student and staff achievements.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Advanced skills in professional writing, journalism-style reporting, proofreading, and editing
Expertise in marketing and website content maintenance.
Excellent public relations, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to act as a liaison between campuses and the district.
Ability to manage multiple projects, such as newsletter coordination and coverage planning, under tight deadlines.
Provide support during urgent or emergency events.
Work collaboratively with others to provide superior support in communications, marketing, and public relations.
Proficiency in the Google Work environment.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to perform a variety of tasks, often changing assignments on short notice, with little or no direction.
Ability to use software to develop spreadsheets, perform data analysis, and do word processing.
Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records.
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in journalism, public relations, marketing, or corporate communications.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Marketing & Public Relations
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to promote district programs and increase community engagement.
- Act as a primary news reporter for the district, visiting campuses to capture stories of student and staff success.
- Manage coverage planning to ensure equitable representation of all campuses in district media.
- Coordinate the development, design, and distribution of district-wide news.
Digital Content and Campus Support
- Serve as the primary editor for all department publications, ensuring accuracy in spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
- Support website content development to ensure information is timely, accessible, and accurate.
- Manage the Peachjar electronic flyer system and other digital distribution platforms.
- Provide direct support to campuses and departments for special event promotion and internal communications.
Other
- During urgent or crisis situations, assist the Chief Communications Officer in drafting and disseminating urgent messaging.
- Support photography and videography for district use as needed.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
