What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Principal position at Walker/Beacon High School?
The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the Walker Beacon School administrative team with primary oversight for operational and educational services at Walker Beacon School in keeping with DESE requirements as well as agency standards and philosophy. Must be committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and strength-based treatment.Education and LicensureRequired: Masters Degree and either MA Licensure as Special Education Administrator License (All Levels) or MA Licensure in Moderate Disabilities License (5-12)Experience5 years direct teaching experience with emotional, social and mental health challenges at the high school level. Supervisory and management experience in a special education setting. Knowledge of Special Education regulations.AbilitiesRequired: Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively.
Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple responsibilities.Essential functions: Serve as member of Walker Beacon leadership team, sharing responsibility for all operations of the Walker Beacon School program.Involvement in the hiring of staff, and assuring that staff receive appropriate coaching, supervision, professional development, and performance evaluation.Facilitate IEP meetings as needed. Communicate with LEAs and caregivers as needed.Coordinate coverage schedules and participate in all milieu activities including physical activity periods, lunch, homeroom, study skills and groups.Actively engage with students, staff and families to promote a welcoming, accepting, safe and positive experience for the entire community. Participate in Open House and other family and student events.Responsibility for managing and providing all behavioral support and interventions including prevention, conflict resolution, logical consequences and documentation.
Assure appropriate communication with staff, parents and LEAs as indicated.Assist the Educational Coordinator with curriculum development and oversight of the IEP process in keeping with agency philosophy including, but not limited to, strength-based and culturally competent practices.Assist with budget planning and fiscal management of the school.Assist with communication, management and record keeping of facility needs. Complete IT and facility tickets as needed, in collaboration with other administrators.Maintain the Walker Beacon School handbook, in collaboration with other administrators.Assist Principal in making sure Walker Beacon School is always operating in compliance with state and federal regulations.Participate in the intake and admissions process as requested and complete all steps for admission in an efficient and timely manner.Responsibility for organizing course schedules, student assignment to courses, and assurance that course offerings are appropriate and meet student needs, in conjunction with Guidance CounselorResponsible to lead MCAS preparation and administration and follow-up documentation.Participate in agency activities as needed.
