The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food for service across multiple service channels, including dining room, take-out, delivery, catering, and special events. This role ensures food is prepared to established quality, safety, and presentation standards while maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment.
The Cook works under the direction of management and may also receive guidance from Restaurant Owners. This position supports company policies and procedures related to food quality, safety, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities, Duties & Accountabilities
The Cook’s core duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Food Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare and cook food items as ordered using established recipes, procedures, and standards
- Support food service for dining room, customer pickup, delivery, catering, banquets, conferences, and events
- Prepare meals for various service times, including lunch, dinner, and special functions
- Ensure timely preparation and presentation of highquality food
Food Safety & Quality Control
- Ensure safe food handling, preparation, storage, labeling, and dating of products
- Follow allergen control and crosscontamination prevention protocols
- Conduct routine inspections of food supplies to ensure freshness, rotation, and safety
- Maintain current food handling permits and certifications (ServSafe as directed)
Inventory & Supplies
- Replenish, organize, and rotate food stocks and supplies
- Assist with inventory control and reordering of food and kitchen supplies
- Unload, inventory, and stock incoming deliveries
- Proactively communicate supply needs and equipment concerns to management
Cleanliness, Equipment & Safety
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation areas
- Perform kitchen cleaning duties, including trash removal
- Safely operate kitchen equipment, including stoves, grills, ovens, and other industrial machinery
- Report damaged or unsafe equipment, dishware, or supplies to management
Teamwork & Guest Satisfaction
- Work collaboratively with coworkers to ensure timely service and a positive dining experience
- Support management and team members in addressing customer concerns professionally and courteously
- Maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, vendors, and the public
Policies, Training & Compliance
- Comply with all company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and departmental checklists
- Follow safety and security protocols consistently
- Complete all required training programs and checklists (opening, closing, cleaning, etc.)
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Position Requirements & Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience as a restaurant cook preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of food safety practices and possession of a current food handling permit
- Ability to safely operate industrial kitchen equipment
- Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Professional demeanor with sound judgment, discretion, dependability, and attention to detail
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- May work near moving or mechanical parts and in hot or cold kitchen environments
- May be exposed to cleaning chemicals, fumes, or airborne particles
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Continuous use of hands and arms with full range of motion and manual dexterity
Scheduling & Attendance
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Ability to maintain regular, reliable attendance, punctuality, and flexible scheduling
